Here Come the Streaking Pirates

Don’t look now but the Pirates have won four games in a row which is their longest winning streak of the season.

Thanks to this hot streak and teams ahead of them losing, Clint Hurdles team is only 3.5 games out of first place.

NL Central Standings

St. Louis 30-33       2.5

Pirates  30-35         3.5

Cincinnati 29-35    4.0

Here are some reasons for the Pirates better play in the last week.

**Starting Pitching: in the last three games, Nova, Taillon and Cole have only allowed 1 earned run in 18 innings

**In the last 17 games, Andrew McCutchen is hitting .397 with 5 HR and 15 RBI

**Since May 22, Jordy Mercer has the best batting average in the National League hitting .386

**Backend of Bullpen Solidified:  Felipe Rivero 0.34 ERA, 38 K’s in 34.2 innings; Juan Nicasio 1.23 ERA, 30 K’s in 29.1 innings

**Offense Producing:  In 16 games, Elias Diaz is hitting .333, Josh Harrison is batting .305 with 8 HR, 12 2B and 22 RBI for the season, In 44 games, Adam Frazier is hitting .286 with 3 HR, 7 2B and 22 RBI.

There’s been a lot of talk lately about which players could be on the trading block. All of that talk could be silenced if the winning continues and the Pirates remain near the top of the NL Central.

One other thing to keep in mind, the Pirates will be getting Starling Marte back in just 34 days. Getting his bat in this surging offense and with his Gold Glove defense, it could turn out to be an interesting summer at PNC Park.
