Scouting Report on Top AAA Indianapolis Prospects

After a rough start to the season, the Pirates AAA affiliate Indianapolis Indians had a great month of May.

Last night, left-hander Steven Brault was dominant in shutting out Lehigh Valley, which is the top team in AAA baseball.

Brault went 7 innings allowing only 5 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks and striking out 8 batters. The 25-year old lowered his season ERA to 2.20, which is the second lowest in the International League.

Perrotto: Pirates’ Inability to Field Three Outfielders is Embarrassing

PITTSBURGH — In the latest bit of Pirates’ bad news, right fielder Gregory Polanco was placed on the 10-day disabled list prior to Wednesday night’s 6-1 victory over the Washington Nationals at PNC Park.

Polanco being sidelined by a strained right hamstring means only one of the three members of the Pirates’ celebrated outfield is on the active roster. That is Andrew McCutchen, who is hitting just .214 with six home runs and a .679 OPS in 38 games even after going 2-for-4 with a two-run single Wednesday.

Two Pirate Prospects Shine Today

Two players that the Pirates are counting on to have a role in the team’s future had encouraging outings this afternoon.

Clay Holmes and Austin Meadows starred as AAA Indianapolis beat Charlotte, 3-2, for their fourth straight win.

The bigger story is Meadows starting to find his stroke at the plate. The Pirates top prospect collected a season-high 3 hits including a double off the wall.

UPDATE (11:06 AM)-

**Bleacher Report released its Top 50 Prospects and a few Pirates were placed on the list.

RHP Mitch Keller, the Pirates 2014 2nd Round Pick was #31. Although he made the Pirates Opening Day roster, Josh Bell was #25. Same goes for Tyler Glasnow who’s listed at #13 and the top ranked Pirates prospect is outfielder Austin Meadows (#11).
