With the MLB Trade Deadline less than a month away and the major league season halfway over, I figured now would be a good time to look at the Pirates depth in the minor league system. Which positions are they dealing from strength and which positions have little depth?

A lot of times, these factors play a role into whether or not a team makes a deal. Do they have proper depth to make up for a player that they might want to trade?


Perrotto: Gifted Youngster Bell Showing Power Potential

Josh Bell did not drop by the maternity ward of Allegheny General Hospital to deliver gifts and wave to new-born Pirates’ fans Thursday after helping power his team to a 10-4 victory over the Washington Nationals earlier in the afternoon at PNC Park.

The rookie switch-hitting first baseman is shown doing just that on an AGH commercial that airs during Pirates’ game telecasts on ROOT Sports. It’s a cute spot, though Bell hasn’t seen it yet.


Home Runs in Back-to-Back Games a Good Sign from Bell

Josh Bell’s home run was hidden beneath two other major story lines Friday night.

Most of the focus following the Pirates’ 6-3 victory over the New York Yankees at PNC Park in the opener of a three-game series was on Tyler Glasnow and Jordy Mercer.

Glasnow, the rookie right-hander, made the best of his three starts this season. He came within one out of pitching the minimum five innings required for what would have been his first career victory.
