Examining The Pirates Minor League Depth Chart

With the MLB Trade Deadline less than a month away and the major league season halfway over, I figured now would be a good time to look at the Pirates depth in the minor league system. Which positions are they dealing from strength and which positions have little depth?

A lot of times, these factors play a role into whether or not a team makes a deal. Do they have proper depth to make up for a player that they might want to trade?

Down on the Farm: 4-14-2017

Here’s a look at how the Pirates Farm Clubs performed today:

INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS

Indianapolis (3-5) beat Toledo, 5-1. Eric Wood led the way offensively with a double and a home run (#1). DH Erich Weiss contributed 2 hits and Max Moroff was on-base 3 times with a double and 2 walks.

The player of the game was starting pitcher Tyler Eppler. The 24-year old pitched 6 shutout innings allowing only 1 base hit. Eppler, who was a 6th round pick in 2014, hasn’t allowed a run yet (11 innings) this season.

Wednesday Pirates News & Notes

UPDATE (11:06 AM)-

**Bleacher Report released its Top 50 Prospects and a few Pirates were placed on the list.

RHP Mitch Keller, the Pirates 2014 2nd Round Pick was #31. Although he made the Pirates Opening Day roster, Josh Bell was #25. Same goes for Tyler Glasnow who’s listed at #13 and the top ranked Pirates prospect is outfielder Austin Meadows (#11).
