UPDATE (1:53 PM)-
**Two interesting moves made by the Pirates today. First was the demotion of Drew Hutchison and now the getting rid of a veteran player.
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports was first to report that the team had placed relief pitcher Jared Hughes on waivers. The 31-year old is signed through 2018 and was due to make $2.5 million this season. The Pirates are on the hook for that money unless he’s claimed off waivers. Hughes has been a guy that Clint Hurdle has relied on during the years but struggled this spring. Hughes might not be the biggest star on the team but was a popular guy in the clubhouse and a great personality on the team. Hughes was always a guy ready and available to talk to the media. Real good guy.
